Hi All

Am new here and looking for a bit of info about fitting the Yamaha handguards.

I own a 660X, bought it around March time and done about 4k miles on it so far. It was bought second hand but looked like new, its got 6k miles on the clock now.

Anyway its getting a bit cold now so I thought I would buy some handguards to keep the windblast off my hands a bit. In the packet they looked easy to fit - just bolt on. However when I come to actually bolt them on, it looks as if the brackets that hold the handlebar strengthening bar are in the place where the handguard brackets fit? To remove these strengthening bar brackets looks more problematic, it seems to me that the bars have to come off and all the levers, grips etc so they can be slid off. What I want to know is - is this is the case? Is it possible to keep the strengthening bar in place and still fit the handguards? Or have I got it all wrong! Embarassed

Thanks for any replies - John

The strenghthening bar can be left in place, it just takes a bit of fiddling with to get the handgaurds to fit. Are they the Yamaha ones?

Hello Parker

Yes, the Yamaha/Acerbis ones. In that case I will have another fiddle tomorrow. When I first tried I just offered them up in what seemed the correct place, and the strengthening bar brackets seemed to be right where I needed to put the handguard ones. Now I know both can be fitted I will persevere.

Thanks - John

Nah not really, may have to adjust wing mirrors on handlebars but thats an easy job, just couple of bolts

I know Parker had more problems fitting the R's than the X's, but got them both on ok...

I got the BikeIt hand guards in blue off eBay...

They aren't reinforced with an alloy bar, but they seem solid enough.

They were a bit of a nuisance to fit, somehow I blew an indicator bulb in the process. Laughing

I'm happy enough with the result for 20 and an hour's work. Very Happy

Just to let you all know, Suzuki DRZ400 handguards fit the XT660X and look well cool.
They just needed different bar end fittings (the expanding rubber, bar end weight variety) I had some kicking around the garage.
They are 35 new, but I got mine off a mate of mine for much less.

cheers, strat.
